Molly Holmes is on a mission. Since assuming the role as director of the Gender & Sexuality Resource Center at Northern Illinois University, she has led the charge on advocacy and equity for all genders and sexual identities. And with LGBTQ topics becoming ever present in today’s media, Holmes is a valued source in her field both locally and nationally.
Prior to joining NIU, Holmes received a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Western Illinois University and worked at Indiana University where she served on the LGBTQ Incidents Team and helped create facility and policy change for transgender students living on campus. Under her guidance NIU’s center was expanded to include all forms of masculinity and femininity through an intersectional social justice lens. She continues to serve on diversity and inclusion-focused committees on campus and recently served on the National Conference on LGBTQ Equality: Creating Change Conference Chicago program committee. In 2015, she was awarded the Howard and Milly Eychaner Award for LGBTQ advocacy.
